EPUB Translator vs DocTranslator — One Payment Per Book

Last updated: 2026-10-16

If you want to pay once to translate a whole book and receive EPUB output, both EPUB Translator and DocTranslator deserve a capability check. A one-time payment is not exclusive to us: DocTranslator's FREE ACCOUNT plan allows paid per-document translation, using balance or checkout. A subscription is not required there.

The useful decision is what your book needs. EPUB Translator accepts EPUB and text-based PDF input and includes both translation-only and bilingual EPUBs for every book. DocTranslator covers more document formats and OCR. Compare the actual deliverable, supported input, and exact quote before buying.

Method and disclosure: we publish EPUB Translator at epubtranslator.app, so this is a comparison by one of the vendors. DocTranslator's official EPUB-translator and pricing pages were checked on 2026-10-16. Our output description follows the current implementation. We did not run a comparative translation-quality benchmark, and the evidence below does not score DocTranslator.

Decision to makeDo you want the two EPUB editions and accept automated-translation limits?Do you need its broader inputs, OCR or a language outside our target list?

Its reviewed EPUB page title says 120+ languages, while body and pricing copy use different counts. Check your actual target language rather than relying on a headline total.

What DocTranslator is great at

DocTranslator's documented breadth is relevant when your book is not a straightforward text EPUB. It accepts office documents and images as well as EPUB and PDF, and offers OCR for scans. EPUB Translator does not supply OCR, accept those office formats, or remove DRM.

If your source is a scan, check the OCR result and the promised output format before paying for a full-book translation. OCR availability does not establish that names, tables, or reading order will be correct. The reviewed sources do not establish bilingual EPUB delivery, so confirm that requirement with DocTranslator if it is essential to your purchase. “Not verified” is not a claim that the feature is absent.

When EPUB Translator fits the purchase

Choose our workflow when you have an accessible EPUB or text PDF, want to translate the whole book, and need both a translation-only EPUB and a bilingual EPUB included. You do not need to install desktop software, bring API credentials, or choose a translation model.

This is a per-book service, not a fixed price for every possible book length. A book of about 500,000 source characters costs about $4.75; your file's exact quote appears after sign-in and server parsing. See current pricing. DocTranslator uses different units, so comparing a word or page rate directly with a character rate would not establish which service costs less for your book.

The full workflow follows this order: select file → sign in with Google or email → server parses and shows the exact file quote → Start translation → explicitly select target language → checkout/payment → automatic translation → download. Checkout shows the book title or filename, target language and total before payment; you can return to change the language. The language picker has no preselected target, and merely opening or closing it does not create an order or spend balance.

If existing balance covers the book, a notice before language selection explicitly says that choosing a language will spend that balance and start translation. In that branch, the selection spends balance instead of opening a separate checkout. Payment is otherwise followed by automatic translation; you do not manually start the job a second time.

What our EPUB delivery actually means

The following is a description of current output behavior, not a finished-book sample or a visual comparison with DocTranslator.

Included outputWhat to expect and check
Translation-only EPUBTranslated text is assembled into the book's EPUB structure. Check chapter navigation, footnotes, images and complex tables in your reader.
Bilingual EPUBMatching prose blocks place the original above the translation paragraph by paragraph, rather than in two columns. Both editions are included without a pre-translation mode choice.
Pairing boundariesIdentical blocks are not doubled. A chapter whose blocks cannot align safely falls back to translation-only text.
Layout changesTargets requiring horizontal text receive adjustments to vertical styles and translated ruby annotations. Line and page breaks can change.
Text PDF inputRebuilt into EPUB; no translated PDF output or promise of exact PDF pagination.

There is no human proofreading or in-app editor included. Context and terminology guidance help consistency, but cannot guarantee names, meaning, tone or layout. Downloaded EPUBs can be reviewed and edited in separate software. Arrange human review for publication or accuracy-sensitive use.

The completeness evidence we can show

Our public untranslated-passage report documents a real 2026-10-11 German-to-Polish incident with 2,803 eligible prose passages. We reviewed all 16 disagreements between Jev and a local completeness check, identifying a known set of 37 untranslated passages across their results.

CheckDetection and false alarms in this incident
Jev alone25/37 known untranslated passages detected; 3 false alarms
Local check alone36/37 known untranslated passages detected; 0 false alarms
Either check flags37/37 known untranslated passages detected; 3 false alarms

These counts come from review of disagreements in a known problematic book, not an exhaustive or blinded audit. Both checks may have missed other passages. They are not accuracy scores, fidelity evidence, a guarantee of zero omissions, or a comparison against DocTranslator.

In two separate healthy books, 573 English-to-Portuguese plus 591 English-to-Czech passages produced zero false alarms for either check and their combination. That result is limited to those 1,164 passages in those two books; it does not establish performance across language pairs.

A flag triggers retranslation and persistent problems can escalate, but successful detection does not prove successful repair. Short passages and non-prose content are not all eligible. If retries or escalation fail, or escalation is unavailable, a problematic passage from the original translation model can still be delivered. Use the bilingual edition to spot-check the beginning, middle, end and paragraph endings. No whole-book sample or screenshot is presented here as proof of final output quality.

Questions before paying for a book

Is EPUB Translator a good DocTranslator alternative for e-books?

It fits an EPUB or text PDF book when you want both EPUB editions included and accept automated translation with the limits described above. DocTranslator may fit broader formats, OCR or other language requirements. Neither the payment model nor the evidence here establishes superior translation quality.

Which is cheaper for translating a whole book?

Compare the exact quotes for your file. Our pricing is ⁦$0.004–$0.0125⁩ per 1,000 source characters, with a minimum of $3.99. DocTranslator quotes by words/pages and also supports payment per document without a subscription. Different units and file lengths make a general price ranking unreliable.

Does DocTranslator translate EPUB files?

Yes, its official EPUB-translator page documents EPUB support. It also lists PDF, office formats and images, with OCR. Bilingual EPUB output was not verified in the reviewed sources; confirm it before purchase if you need the original and translation together.

Do I need an account?

Yes for the paid workflows described here. With EPUB Translator, first select your book, then sign in with Google or email. The server parses it and shows the exact quote before you click Start translation, choose a target language and proceed to payment.

Can I get a bilingual EPUB without an extra purchase?

With EPUB Translator, both translation-only and bilingual EPUBs are included for every book. The bilingual version places the original above its translation paragraph by paragraph, subject to the pairing limits above. It is not an optional preselected output mode or a two-column layout.

For more documented options, read the seven-tool comparison. If this delivery fits your book, review pricing, then select the file to sign in and see its exact quote.
