EPUB Translator MCP Server

Translate EPUB e-books right inside Claude, Cursor and other AI assistants

EPUB Translator runs a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Add the address below to any AI assistant that supports MCP, then just ask it to "translate this epub into Japanese" — it handles the upload, the translation and the download.

MCP server URL

https://epubtranslator.app/mcp
  • No API key: the first time you use it, a browser window opens and you sign in with Google once
  • Same account and same balance as the website — top up there, use it here
  • Every book comes back as two EPUBs: translation-only and bilingual (original + translation)

How to connect

Claude (claude.ai / Claude Desktop)

  1. Open Customize → Connectors
  2. Click "+ Add" → "Add custom connector"
  3. Enter any name (e.g. EPUB Translator), paste the URL above, click Continue → Add
  4. Sign in with Google on the page that opens when you connect

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal, then type /mcp inside Claude Code and follow the browser sign-in:

claude mcp add --transport http epub-translator https://epubtranslator.app/mcp

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (global) or .cursor/mcp.json in your project:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "epub-translator": {
      "url": "https://epubtranslator.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers (Streamable HTTP) with OAuth sign-in works: paste the URL above wherever it asks for an MCP server.

Start translating

Once connected, just ask in plain language. The book can be a local file or a public direct link to a .epub. For example:

“Translate this epub into Japanese and give me the bilingual download link when it is done.”

Available tools (7)

list_supported_languages
List every supported target language (ISO 639-1 codes)
create_upload_url
Get an upload URL for a local .epub file; returns a fileId after upload
translate_epub
Start a translation from a fileId or a public source_url plus a target language; credits are charged automatically by character count
get_translation_status
Check progress (status + percentage)
check_balance
Estimate how many character credits a book needs and whether your balance covers it; returns a top-up link if not
get_download_url
Get the download link when finished; mode is translated (default) or bilingual
get_balance
Show your remaining translation credit, in characters

Typical flow

  1. Pick a target language with list_supported_languages
  2. Hand over the book: upload via create_upload_url, or give translate_epub a public link
  3. Start the job with translate_epub
  4. Poll get_translation_status
  5. Fetch the translation-only or bilingual EPUB with get_download_url

If your balance runs out

When the balance is not enough, translate_epub and check_balance return a top-up link. Pay in your browser, come back to the assistant and carry on — no need to reconnect.

If your tool doesn't support remote MCP, or you want to script the API yourself, use the Agent Skill with an API key instead.
